Guild Park and Gardens part 2

Earlier this year, I spent an afternoon at Guild Park and Gardens in Scarborough as research for Realmshard, book 3 of the Julia Ivory series. The park is a haven for large architectural pieces that were saved from old buildings around Toronto. I shared some of what I saw in this post: The Gargoyles of Toronto. That post contains images of park features that are referenced in Realmshard.

Here are a few more interesting things I saw that day.

The birds in the park are very friendly.

The oldest building on site is this log cabin, which was likely constructed on this property in the 1850s.

Note the heart drawn on the door.

Another interesting item in the park is this fireplace mantle. It once stood in the house of Frederick Banting, one of the men credited with using insulin to treat diabetic patients. The mantle came from his house in Toronto, at 46 Bedford Road, which has been demolished and is now the site of Taddle Creek Park.

So many details used to be carved into stone. It’s too bad buildings aren’t crafted like this anymore.
